Description

I’ve had this recipe for years and can’t seem to get enough of this pie! This recipe is different than other apple pies because instead of mixing the apples with sugar, you create a thick brown sugar-cinnamon sauce that I’m sure would be delicious poured over ice cream or just eaten with a spoon. You won’t be disappointed!

Ingredients

  • 1 stick Butter
  • 3 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 3 Tablespoons Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • ½ cups White Sugar
  • 1 dash Nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • 6 whole Baking Apples, Peeled, Cored And Sliced
  • 1 whole 9-inch Prepared Pie Crust With Top Crust (optional)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour and cornstarch to form a paste. Add water, vanilla, white sugar and brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer for a few minutes, until thickened.

Wash, peel, core, and slice applies.

Add the apples to the sugar sauce and pour into the prepared pie crust. If using a top crust, place over the apples and brush crust with an egg wash for a nice sheen, if desired. Egg wash: 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water.

Bake for one hour in the preheated oven. Let sit for about 20 minutes for the apples to cool and thicken a bit.

This looks just like Grandma Ople’s Apple Pie from allrecipes. I make it every year and it’s fantastic!

This smelled like heaven while I made it. The taste was just as heavenly. So simple and tasty. It’s been fall like here and nothing says fall to me like apple pie. Thank you for sharing this great recipe!

Love this recipe! I don’t usually like apple pie that much, but the sauce made it great.

Wow. WOW! I made this at work for my office (we have a full kitchen) and it was devoured with lots of “mmmm….this is so good.”

But the best thing I heard from my co-worker upon her walking in the office and smelling the pie cooking: “This smells like God.”

Just the right amount of thickness in the sauce. I feel like this is a pretty fool proof recipe to achieving that perfect consistency. Bravo on a great recipe!
