Description

Very simple and versatile recipe. Switch out the apples for bing cherries to make a cherry fritter. Can’t go wrong with these tummy-tempting little delights!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose Flour
  • ¼ cups Sugar
  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ⅓ cups Whole Milk
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 cup Chopped Granny Smith Apple
  • Oil, For Frying
  • _____
  • FOR THE GLAZE:
  • 4 cups Confectioners Sugar
  • 6 Tablespoons Water
  • 3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

Preparation

Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon. Stir in milk and egg until just combined. Fold in apple.

Pour oil into skillet so that it is approximately 1 1/2″ deep. Heat oil on high. Oil is ready when dough floats to the top.

Carefully add dough to oil in heaping tablespoonfuls. Cook until brown, about 2 minutes, then flip. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, until both sides are browned (you don’t want a gooey middle). Transfer briefly to paper towels to absorb excess oil, then transfer to a cooling rack.

To make the glaze, stir water, oil and powdered sugar together in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over apple fritters or just dunk the apple fritters right on in the delicious glaze-y goodness and place back on the cooling rack (make sure you have waxed paper underneath those wire racks to catch all the drippings). Let the glaze set thoroughly.

These taste best when warm (we nuke ours in the microwave for about 5-7 seconds), but honestly, they are great when cool as well.

romansmom – I haven’t tried baking these but it might be fun to try. Maybe if I put a tablespoonful into mini muffin tins. What do you think? It certainly would be a slightly healthier alternative!

Have you tried baking these? If so, how do they turn out?

I probably should also mention that this recipe is very easy to double or even triple!
