Description

Baked apple fritters with a whiskey glaze.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE DOUGHNUTS:
  • 2 cups Cake Flour
  • ¾ cups Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Nutmeg, Ground
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • ¾ cups Buttermilk
  • 2  Eggs, Lightly Beaten
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
  • 1 cup Canned Apple Pie Filling, Apples Diced
  • FOR THE GLAZE:
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Whiskey

Preparation

Preheat your oven to 425F.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Beat in the buttermilk, eggs and melted butter until fully incorporated.

Dice the apples from the canned apple pie filling into small pieces. Add them into the doughnut batter and mix until evenly distributed.

Spray a doughnut pan (recipe makes 12-14 doughnuts) with non-stick spray, filling each cavity with 1/3-1/2 cup of doughnut batter. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 minutes or until light golden brown. Allow to cool on a cooling rack.

In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and whiskey until sugar is dissolved and mixture is runny. Add more or less whiskey to give you the desired consistency of a glaze.

Pour glaze over each doughnut or dunk the tops of the doughnuts into the glaze. Then turn the doughnuts right side up to allow glaze to set. Serve while still slightly warm.

Yields: 12-14 doughnuts.
