Description

Since we are cutting back on salt, I have adapted this homemade version of the seasoning you get in the packets. I hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Cumin
  • 1-½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1-½ teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Cayenne Pepper (Optional To Make It Spicy)
  • ½ teaspoons Black Pepper

Preparation

Mix all of the above together and stir into 1 to 1.5 lbs of your favorite protein for tacos. We use 93% lean ground turkey in our house, or soy crumbles, but we have tried it with chicken cut into strips and ground beef as well. Great alternative to store-bought packets that contain a lot of salt. Make sure to taste and adjust if you like. I have heard that for some cumin is an acquired taste, but I feel that it makes this seasoning taste more authentic. Enjoy!

Great idea; if you are watching salt intake you should know that most chili powders do have salt, unless you are using pure ground dried chilis.
