Description

This is slightly sweet yet tangy lip smack’n good BBQ sauce. Sure to be a hit at your favorite summer BBQ, sport game, or whatever the occasion is.

Ingredients

  • 2-⅓ cups Ketchup
  • 3 cups Tomato Sauce
  • 1-½ cup Brown Sugar
  • 1-¾ cup Red Wine Vinegar (You Can Certainly Substitute Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • ¾ cups Unsulphured Molasses
  • 5-½ teaspoons Hickory-flavored Liquid Smoke
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter, Unsalted
  • ½ teaspoons White Pepper
  • ½ teaspoons Onion Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Cayenne Pepper
  • ½ teaspoons Celery Seed
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Chili Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (omit If Using Salted Butter)
  • 1 teaspoon Coarsely Ground Pepper

Preparation

1. In a large stock saucepan over medium heat, add the ketchup, tomato sauce, brown sugar, red wine vinegar, molasses, liquid smoke, and butter. Mix together.
2. After mixing, add the remaining dry ingredients.
3. Reduce heat to low and allow to cook for about 40 minutes, making sure to stir constantly to prevent burning or sticking.
4. Remove the sauce from heat and allow to cool. It will thicken upon sitting.

I usually make this the day before to really allow the flavors to mingle overnight.
