Description

So easy and way better than the bottled stuff. Once you make this, you will never buy it again.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cups Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • ¼ cups High Quality Chili Powder
  • 8 ounces, weight Tomato Sauce
  • 1-½ cup Chicken Broth
  • ¼ teaspoons Cumin
  • ¼ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Onion Salt

Preparation

Heat oil in a pan and whisk flour and chili powder in. Be careful not to allow the flour to burn. You just want it to lightly brown. Gradually add tomato sauce, broth, cumin, garlic powder, and onion salt. Simmer for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly.

I dip my tortilla in the sauce then fill it with ingredients. You can pour the remaining sauce on the enchiladas before cooking. This is enough for about 8 to 10 enchiladas.

I reduced the chili powder to about 1 1/2 tablespoons, and it was still a little hot for my mild taste, but otherwise it was great and very easy to make!

Made this to go in a recipe that called for a can of enchilada sauce. I didn’t have quite enough chili powder so used about half chili powder and half paprika and sprinkled in a few red pepper flakes to up the heat. I added some more garlic and onion powder just because I like it! It turned out so good…much better and less expensive than a can, and you saved me a trip to the grocery store…priceless!

I made this last night and it was very good. Not to spicy for my kids. I will use again soon. Thanks

I won’t buy enchilada sauce again. It’s so cost effective since it costs $1.79 or more to buy a can of enchilada sauce and we like this one so much! Thanks for posting the recipe!

I made this last night for dinner. It was fantastic! I did use about half the chili powder because I didn’t have the whole amount, but it still was very, very good. Made some of the best enchiladas I’ve ever made! I will never buy it in a can again.
