In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and both sugars. In a small bowl, combine evaporated milk, eggs and vanilla; mix into the butter and sugar. In another bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder to combine; fold by hand into the batter with a heavy wooden spoon. Remember, this will be thick like cookie dough.
Heat your waffle iron to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The amount of dough needed will depend on the size and type of your waffle maker. Start with a dough ball the size of a golf ball and adjust from there. Waffles should be baked to golden brown (approximately 3-5 minutes).
Serve with a good sprinkling of powdered sugar and fresh strawberries for an authentic Belgian experience.
