Description

Whether round or square, stacked, chocolate drizzled or fruit smothered, this dish is always a delicious way to bring family together and start a beautiful day. So this morning I made Dark Chocolate Chip Belgium Waffles served with vanilla ice cream and raspberry jam, teased with a drizzle of real maple syrup. I love all those deep pockets catching that fruity goodness.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose, Unbleached Flour
  • 1 dash Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 cup Dark Chocolate Chips
  • ⅓ cups Melted Unsalted Butter
  • 2  Large, Organic Free Range Eggs
  • 1-¾ cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 6 Tablespoons Raspberry Jam
  • 1 cup Maple Syrup

Preparation

1. Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Add flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and cinnamon into a sifter.
3. Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl.
4. Sprinkle in chocolate chips and mix well.
5. Allow the melted butter to cool a bit.
6. In another bowl add eggs, milk, vanilla and melted butter and blend.
7. Pour the wet ingredients a little at a time into the dry until mixed well.
8. Open waffle iron, and pour some batter into the iron just to cover the bottom plate.
9. Close the iron, turn it over and cook for 2 minutes (I usually set the iron to about a 5 to heat up then turn it to 3 1/2 – 4 using the first waffle to gauge cooking time and heat).
10. Once it is browned to your liking, take the waffle out of the iron. Repeat until all the batter is used.
11. Place a spoonful of vanilla ice cream in the center of each waffle.
12. Add a dollop of raspberry jam or one of your liking.
13. Finish with a lite drizzle of organic real maple syrup.
14. Serve with a ramekin of fresh fruit salad.
