Description

Keep your good health promises from the summer going into the fall and winter with this delicious homemade granola.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rolled Oats
  • ¾ cups Wheat Germ
  • ½ cups Shredded Coconut
  • ¼ cups Flax Seeds
  • ¼ cups Sesame Seeds
  • ¼ cups Raw Sunflower Kernels (seeds)
  • 1 cup Chopped Nuts (personal Favorites Are Pecans, Almonds, And Macademias (use Just One Or A Mixture)
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • ⅓ cups Honey
  • ½ cups Salad Oil (I Used Canola)
  • 1-½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract (almond Extract Is Also Very Good)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix oats, wheat germ, coconut, flax seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower kernels, nuts and cinnamon together in a large bowl.

In a medium size bowl mix together the brown sugar, honey, oil, and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients and mix well.

Divide the mixture between two 9″ x 13″ baking dishes or pans. Bake for 20 minutes, stirring every 5-7 minutes.

Remove from oven and allow granola to cool in pans. After the granola has cooled, using a pancake turner, gently slide the turner beneath the granola to break it up. Store in a zip-style plastic bag or other container of your choice.

Terri-this is one AMAZING granola! I used a mixture of dried blueberries and dried cranberries in it. I also added some dark chocolate chips and a teaspoon of almond extract along with the vanilla extract. We loved each and every bite. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe.

This really is perfect granola. Although, being the kind of person that can’t leave well enough alone, I did add 1/4 cup of maple syrup to the mix. I also added in dried tart cherries after it was baked. It’s so good sprinkled on yogurt or just covered with milk. Thank you so much for the great recipe! This is staying in my permanent recipe file, and is the best granola recipe I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried a lot of them.
