These cinnamon squares are probably considered a dessert, but I made them for breakfast. They’re kind of like a cheater’s cinnamon roll.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 15×10×1 -inch pan. Beat together sugar, butter, and egg yolk until creamy. Mix in flour and cinnamon. Press dough into the pan. Beat egg white and water together until frothy and brush over the top of the dough. Sprinkle with nuts. Bake for 18-23 minutes or until light brown. Cut into squares immediately. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 30 minutes.

I should also add that I didn’t use nuts, and I do think that if you made sure to use a LOT of the egg wash on the top and omitted the nuts and instead put frosting on after they cool this would be close to Homemade Pop Tarts

Wow, yummy. I just came across this and decided to make it because it sounded QUICK and SIMPLE. I didn’t wait long to dig into it and it was such a confusing treat, in the best possible way! It tastes like a cookie, but cakey, like a crust, and a bar, like the edges of a cinnamon roll but also the gooey insides. Yummy.
