Description

Made from day-old or left-over french bread. Great as a snack or for breakfast.

Ingredients

  • ½ pints Whole Or Skimmed Milk
  • 1-½ cup Sugar, Divided
  • 3 drops Vanilla
  • 1 whole Loaf Of French Bread
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 4 teaspoons Powdered Cinnamon
  • 1-½ cup Oil

Preparation

1. In a bowl, pour the warmed milk and take 2 tablespoons sugar from the 1 1/2 cups prepared for the recipe. Stir until the sugar is well dissolved. You can add the vanilla at this point if you decide to include it in your recipe. Set aside.
2. Slice the day-old French bread into 1 inch thick slices.
3. Dip each slice of bread into the milk mixture. Don’t overdo it so the bread slices do not get too soggy. Place the dipped bread slices on a plate.
4. Crack the egg in a bowl and beat together the egg white and egg yolk. Set aside.
5. In a bowl, mix the 4 teaspoons of powdered cinnamon and the 1 1/2 cups (minus 2 tablespoons) white or brown sugar. Set aside.
6. In a pan, heat the oil.
7. Dip each slice of bread into the beaten egg and fry just until each side is golden brown. Drain the fried bread in a paper towel.
8. When the excess oil is drained from the bread, coat both sides of the bread slices with the cinnamon-sugar.
9. Serve warm or cold. And enjoy it with a cup of hot chocolate or espresso!
