Description

This is my go-to dinner roll bread recipe. Perfect for taking to your Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinners. Slightly sweet, the oatmeal helps to keep the dinner rolls super moist and gives them a great texture.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages (1/4 Oz. Size) Yeast
  • 4 teaspoons Sugar, Divided
  • ⅓ cups Lukewarm Water
  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • ½ cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • ½ cups Quick Oats
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter, Softened
  • ⅔ cups Brown Sugar
  • 1-½ teaspoon Salt
  • 5 cups All-purpose Flour

Preparation

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in the lukewarm water. Set aside.

In a large bowl, pour boiling water over both kinds of oats and softened butter. Stir the mixture and cool to lukewarm.

To the slightly cooled oatmeal mixture, add brown sugar, remaining 1 tablespoon (3 teaspoons) sugar, salt, and yeast mixture. Stir and knead in the flour, adding 1 cup at a time.

Return dough to a greased bowl, cover, and allow dough to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Punch dough down. Form into 12 rolls and place in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Allow rolls to rise again, about 20–30 minutes.

Bake in a 350°F oven for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
