Description

Bright orange flavor and crunchy walnuts make these soft and rich scones the perfect breakfast treat!

Ingredients

  • 1-¾ cup Flour
  • ¼ cups Sugar
  • 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • ⅓ cups Unsalted Butter, Cold And Cut Into 1-inch Cubes
  • 2 Tablespoons Orange Zest
  • ½ cups Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
  • ¼ cups Non-fat Vanilla Yogurt
  • ½ cups Walnuts, Coarsely Chopped
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 Tablespoon Water
  • ½ cups Confectioners Sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 400 F. In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt and mix to combine. Add the butter. Using your fingers, incorporate the butter into the flour mixture and break into pea size pieces. Add in the orange zest, orange juice, yogurt and walnuts. Mix until just incorporated. The batter should be lumpy. Do not over mix!
2. Portion dough into 2 inch balls and slightly flatten the tops of each ball. Place on a baking sheet that you’ve lined with parchment paper. Whisk together the egg with 1 tablespoon water. Using a pastry brush, brush the tops of each scone with the egg wash. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until slightly golden. Cool completely on a cooling rack.
3. Whisk together the confectioner’s sugar and 4 tablespoons orange juice. Drizzle this glaze over the scones.
