Description

Perfect for Easter brunch or anytime, Orange Poppy Seed Bread is sure to disappear quickly!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BREAD:
  • 3 cups Self-Rising Flour
  • 2-½ cups Sugar
  • 3 whole Eggs
  • 1-½ cup Milk
  • 1-½ cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1-½ Tablespoon Poppy Seeds
  • 1-½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract
  • 1-½ teaspoon Butter Flavor
  • _____
  • FOR THE GLAZE:
  • ¾ cups Sugar
  • 1 cup Orange Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract
  • ½ teaspoons Butter Flavor
  • 1 whole Orange, Zested (optional)

Preparation

In a large mixing bowl, add flour, sugar, eggs, milk, oil, poppy seeds, vanilla extract, almond extract, and butter flavor. Beat on medium speed with an electric mixer for 2 minutes. Pour into 3 greased/floured loaf pans, or three 8×8 baking dishes. The loaves will need to cook for 50-60 mintues or until the batter is done in the middle. The 8 x8 pans will take less time, but ovens vary, so test for doneness before removing from the oven.

Glaze:

Mix together the sugar, orange juice, almond extract, butter flavor, and the zest of an orange while bread cooks. Pour glaze over the bread immediately after removing the bread from the oven. Let the bread cool before cutting into slices.

I have a Poppy Seed Bundt Cake recipe that is very similar to this. I only use 1 cup of oil, the same extract and flavorings are used but the measurements are a little different and it is cooked in a greased 10 in. fluted tube pan at 350 for 60-70 minutes. The cake I cook is amazing and since the ingredients are similar I bet this recipe is great too. I use a cooked orange icing but I am going to try this glaze it sounds delicious.
