Description

This bread is easy to make and goes well with all kinds of dishes. This recipe is actually the halved version that I make for just myself and my husband; however, it can easily be doubled to make enough bread for a bigger family!

Ingredients

  • ⅜ cups Lukewarm Water
  • 1 package RapidRise Yeast, 7 Gram Packet
  • ½ cups Whole Milk
  • 1-½ Tablespoon Sugar
  • ½ Tablespoons Salt
  • ¾ Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • ¼ cups Onion, Minced Finely
  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour

Preparation

Grease a “vessel” in which to bake your bread with unsalted butter. I have used a single loaf pan or a small, round casserole dish for this recipe. If you double the recipe, you can use two loaf pans or a larger casserole dish.

Pour the lukewarm water into a large mixing bowl; sprinkle the package of yeast on top. Allow to stand while you move on to the next step.

Scald the milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat (you want to see some steam coming off of the milk and small bubbles forming around the edge of the pan, but the milk should not be boiling). Before it boils, remove the scalded milk from the heat and add the sugar, salt, and butter; stir to combine.

Give the yeast/water mixture a quick stir and add the milk mixture into it; give a quick stir to combine. Add the flour and minced onion all at once and stir until the bread dough comes together (this could also be done in a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment). Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until about double in size.

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Punch down the risen dough and stir it down a bit. Dump the dough into your greased pan or dish; bake the bread, uncovered, for about 40 minutes. If you double the recipe, it will take about an hour. Let the bread cool down for a few minutes, then turn it out onto your favorite cutting board. Cut into slices or wedges, and enjoy!
