Description

Easy bread recipe that can be used to make cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, runzas, etc.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 stick Unsalted Butter, Plus More To Rub On Top Of Baked Rolls
  • 2 packages (1/4 Oz. Packet) Quick-Rise Yeast
  • ¼ cups Warm Water
  • 3  Eggs
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 6 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

Preparation

Place the milk in a pan and add the butter and scald. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. While the milk is cooling, put the yeast and water into your mixing bowl and allow to proof until it’s bubbly. Add the eggs and sugar and mix well. Add the cooled milk. Sift the flour and salt into the mixing bowl and allow to combine. Once it’s pulling away from the edges, let your dough hook beat the daylights out of it for two minutes. Remove to a greased container and cover and let rise until doubled in size. Punch down and form into balls for rolls, or roll out onto a floured surface for cinnamon rolls, or cut into squares for runza filling. Bake in a preheated 400ºF for 15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Rub butter over the tops when you take them out!

According to MY family, Runzas are funza in the bunza…the filling is made up of browned ground beef, shredded cabbage that you wilt by placing it into the browned beef, and a little finely sliced onion. I season my beef with italian seasoning and the sliced onion while it browns, then turn off the stove and add the shredded cabbage..I use about 5 lbs of ground beef, 1 onion, and 1 head of cabbage for a single batch of the roll recipe. You get 24-36 small runzas or in my house I make handfulls as hubby calls them and get 12-16. I use this bread recipe for cinnamon rolls and plain dinner rolls that are anything But plain. I can always email you a picture of a runza if you want!

This looks like a great basic dough recipe. Sorry to ask, but what is ‘runza filling’?
