Description

This marbled chocolate orange bread is an easy quick bread that is light and fluffy and full of chocolate and orange flavour.

Ingredients

  • 1-½ cup All-purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Orange Zest (about 2 Medium Oranges)
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar (lightly Packed)
  • 1 whole Large Egg
  • ½ cups Canola Oil
  • ½ cups Buttermilk
  • ½ cups Orange Juice (about 2 Medium Oranges)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • ¼ cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350ºF. Lightly spray an 8×4 inch loaf pan with nonstick spray and set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and orange zest. In another bowl, whisk together brown sugar, egg, oil, buttermilk, orange juice and vanilla until well combined. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Transfer half of the batter to another bowl and whisk in cocoa powder. To the other half of the batter, fold in chocolate chips.

Fill prepared loaf pan with alternating spoonfuls of the two batters. Swirl a knife through the batter to mix the two together slightly and smooth the top. Bake the loaf for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in the loaf pan, and then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
