Description

I got this recipe from Recipezaar and I changed a few items. It is comprised of ingredients that I always keep on hand. It has a little cocoa and coffee as an added kick and the bread is divine. The prep time includes rise time.

Ingredients

  • 1-½ cup Warm Water (between 110-115 Degrees)
  • 2-¼ teaspoons Instant Yeast
  • 2 cups All-Purpose, Unbleached Flour (bread Flour)
  • 1-⅔ cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa
  • 1 Tablespoon Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Instant Coffee
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter (margarine), Melted
  • ½ cups Honey

Preparation

Add yeast to warm water and gently stir. Set aside

In a large bowl add flours, cocoa, sugar, salt, and coffee. Mix to combine.

Make a well in the dry ingredients and add margarine, honey, and the yeast water. Stir until the dough comes together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

Lightly dust a flat surface with flour and knead until smooth (about 10 minutes); on my lazy days I do this all in the stand mixer and this is the time I switch from the mixer to the dough hook. Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat all sides. Cover and let rise until doubled in size; about 1 hour.

Separate ball into four pieces. Either roll each piece into circles or shape into four loaves.

Place onto a lightly greased cookie sheet, cover and let rise for about 1 hour.

Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for about 30-35 minutes.

This is so good warm with a little pat of honey butter! The original chef says she loved it with chicken salad. Enjoy!
