Description

This is a recipe from my grandmother’s cookbook (which I recently found). I made a couple of vegan modifications (not many), and they are absolutely fantastic!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 4 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Orange Zest
  • 4 Tablespoons Vegan Butter, Melted
  • ¾ cups Almond Milk (or Other Milk Alternative)
  • 7 whole Sugar Cubes (1 Per Biscuit, Or More Depending On The Size That You Make Your Biscuits)
  • 3 Tablespoons Orange Juice

Preparation

Whisk flour, baking powder, salt and zest together. Drizzle melted butter on top, and slowly add milk, mixing with a fork until it begins to come together. Knead with your hands until a giant ball is formed (about 5 minutes). Break the dough ball into 7 pieces (or as many as you would like), and roll in your hands until a ball is formed. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Dip sugar cubes in the orange juice and then press one into the center of each biscuit. Brush the biscuits with some orange juice. Bake in a 425 degree F oven for 20 minutes, or until they are lightly browned on the bottom. Allow to stand for about 10 minutes. Enjoy on their own, with a bit of vegan butter, or some jam. YUM!!! Enjoy!

The original recipe calls for ‘real’ butter, and milk (rather than an alternative milk). That is the only change.

These look delicious! As a non-vegan, can you tell me how to go back to the original recipe with butter and milk and/or cream?
