Description

This is recipe #3 from Grandma Evie’s recipe box. This bread is a sweet bread.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 1 whole Egg, Beaten
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • ½ cups Nuts, Chopped

Preparation

Sift dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon) and set aside. In another bowl, beat the egg. Add brown sugar and melted butter, mix well. Mix in buttermilk. Then add dry ingredients and stir together. Finally, fold in chopped nuts.

Spray a loaf pan with nonstick spray. Transfer batter to the loaf pan.

Bake at 350ºF for 40 to 45 minutes.

Notes: I used whole wheat pastry flour because that is what I had available. Also, I used a 1/2 cup of brown sugar blend Splenda instead of 1 cup of brown sugar.
