Description

Tortillas that you can make up in a jiff. They are soft, delicious, and you’ll wonder why you ever bought them!

Ingredients

  • 2-½ cups Flour
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1-½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cups Canola Or Olive Oil
  • ¾ cups Water

Preparation

In bowl mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add oil and, with your hands, mix until oil is incorporated. Add water all at once and mix with hands until well blended.

Pinch off about 8-10 balls and place in a bowl. Cover and let sit at least 15 minutes, then roll out thin on a floured surface. Heat up pan, place tortilla, and cook until bubbly. Then turn and cook till lightly browned.

You can make the balls early in the day and then cook them right before eating.

Note: A neighbor of mine gave me this recipe, which was taught to her by her grandmother in South America when she was a little girl.

*** Tip for rolling out the tortillas – use a gallon zip type bag and cut off the zip top. Slit open one side of the bag and roll the tortilla out in the bag. May have to turn bag over and peel the plastic off every once in a while as you roll, but when you have the dough rolled out as thin as you want it, peel off the plastic and cook. Works like a dream.

Love how easy this dough is to handle, rolls out like a dream! I used a combination of canola and olive oil, never tried oil in a tortilla recipe but liked the result. For me, 1 1/2 tsp salt is too much – next time will only use around a tsp. Thanks for this easy recipe!

This was my first-ever attempt at making flour tortillas at home. It was a super-easy recipe. Temperature of the skillet was crucial and making sure that the tortillas were rolled thinly enough. Overall, these tortillas were easy to make and so delicious!

I have tried at least a handful of different tortilla recipes and these are by far the easiest and yummiest. They also turn out great with partial whole wheat flour. This is now my go to recipe for tortillas. Thanks for sharing!
