Description

Oh my goodness! I wish you could have smelled my kitchen when this was in the oven! This is so moist and delicious. The streusel topping is amazing!

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Butter, Softened
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • ¼ cups 1% Milk
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups Apples, Shredded (I Used Macintosh.)
  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • FOR THE STREUSEL TOPPING:
  • ¼ cups Light Brown Sugar, Packed
  • 3 Tablespoons Flour
  • ¼ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons Cold Butter
  • ½ cups Walnuts, Chopped

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 5 bread pan with nonstick spray; set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together. Add the milk, eggs, vanilla, and apples and mix on low speed until smooth.

3. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Add the dry ingredients to the apple mixture on low speed until combined. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.

4. In a small mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon on low speed. With the mixer on low speed, add little pieces of the butter and mix until blended. Add the walnuts and stir well. Sprinkle the streusel over the bread batter evenly.

5. Bake for 60 – 70 minutes (until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean). Let stand for 10 minutes. Then remove the bread from the pan and cool on a wire rack.

Make-Ahead Tip

This would be a great treat to keep in the freezer. All you need to do is thaw it out overnight and then you’ll have an instant dessert with no mess or fuss.

Freezing Directions

When the bread is completely cooled, wrap in plastic wrap and place it in a labeled freezer bag. Remove as much air as possible. I recommend using a vacuum sealed bag. Freeze up to 2 months.

This bread is delicious!!! I made this today and ate it warm with a nice hot cup of green tea. Yummm! I used Gala apples as they were the only kind I had. Great recipe. I’m going to use the streusel topping for muffins and pumpkin bread later. It was so good.

i can’t for the life of me figure out why this was so bland, it smelled like heaven in the oven. the struesel was really good though; the body of the bread was the bland part:(

so good! i turned this into muffins last night and substituted oats for the nuts in the topping. i also did half brown sugar/half white. they were absolutely delicious on this rainy, fall morning! definitely a recipe i’ll keep around.

Yum! I didn’t have any nuts so I used 1/4 cup of oats for some texture in the streusel. I like that this makes a nice tall, thick loaf.

Very nice bread! I used 1/2 butter and 1/2 oil, 1/2 white and brown sugar, used pumpkin pie spice in the bread and cinnamon in the streusel. I used Granny Smith apples grated. The topping really makes this bread don’t skip it!
