Description

Think homemade Pop-tarts. So yummy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar, Plus Extra To Sprinkle On Top
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¾ cups Margarine
  • 4 Tablespoons Cold Water
  • ⅔ cups Strawberry Jam (or Your Favorite)
  • 1 whole Egg
  • ½ cups Icing Sugar
  • 4 teaspoons Evaporated Milk

Preparation

For the toasties:

Preheat oven to 400F.

1. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
2. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut in margarine so that it resembles coarse crumbs or pea-sized pieces. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons water over flour mixture; add remaining tablespoons as needed so that dough holds together when pressed.
3. Shape dough into 2 balls. Chill for 30 minutes if too soft to roll out. (I didn’t have to do this.)
4. Shape each ball into a triangle shape and roll out into a rectangle approximately 9×12 inches.
5. Cut into 12 equal pieces. On 6 pieces, place a spoonful of jam. Whisk egg and brush the remaining 6 pieces.
6. Sandwich a jam piece with an egg piece, egg side in. seal edge tightly with a fork or by pinching.
7. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
8. Brush tops with remaining egg, sprinkle with white sugar.
9. Repeat with remaining dough.
10. Place in the oven for 13-15 minutes or until golden on top.

For the icing:
1. Stir icing sugar with evaporated milk.
2. Spread over cooled Toasties. Enjoy!
