Description

Fried cheese curds are incredibly popular in Minnesota, where I grew up. I was gifted a bag of cheese curds and couldn’t resist the urge to fry some of them up. I also couldn’t resist the urge to add some cayenne pepper to the batter. Not too much pepper, just enough to tickle your throat a bit!

Ingredients

  • Vegetable Or Canola Oil For Frying
  • 1 cup Flour
  • ⅔ cups Milk
  • ¾ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Chili Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 pound Cheese Curds (If You're Not In The Midwest, Try Trader Joe's!)

Preparation

Heat oil in a pan or deep fryer.

Combine flour, milk, baking powder, salt, chili powder, and cayenne pepper.

Coat cheese curds in the mixture.

Fry in hot oil, flipping if needed, until batter is golden and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the excess oil.

Eat while still warm. I would recommend ranch if you want to dip them in something, but I enjoy mine plain.

Deep fried squeaky cheese – my favorite! I’ll have to try the cayenne – it sounds fantastic…
