Description

The onion rings are dipped in Franks hot sauce and baked! No guilt with this recipe when satisfying your meanest craving for a good onion ring.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Large Onion
  • 1 cup Frank's Hot Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 2 cups Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 1 dash Garlic Powder
  • 1 dash Onion Powder

Preparation

Preheat oven to 450F. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice your onion rings. In one bowl combine Franks hot sauce with whole wheat flour and egg and mix together. The egg will help the batter stick better. In a different bowl add your panko bread crumbs, garlic powder and onion powder—just sprinkle some on top of the panko and mix in. Let your onion rings sit in the Franks for just a minute and shake off excess liquid and dip in the panko mix.

Lay coated onion rings on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Before baking, spray with olive oil cooking spray. After 8 minutes, turn and spray the other side and bake for another 8 minutes. You may want to keep an eye on them; if you want them just a little crispier, you can leave them in an extra minute or two. Let them sit for 1 minute out of the oven and eat and enjoy.

Note: oven temperatures vary so just check on them after around 7 minutes.

I was craving a late night snack yesterday, and made these (with some crumbled blue cheese & fresh dill added in the last two minutes of baking)…quick & easy, and very delicious!!
