Description

Great snack food or to serve as an appetizer at parties.

Ingredients

  • 1 box 16 Oz, Standard Bread Mix
  • 1 package 16 Oz Breakfast Sausage
  • 1 can 8 Oz Pizza Sauce
  • 1 package 8 Oz Pepperoni Slices
  • 1 package 8 Oz Mozzarella Cheese

Preparation

* Note: the long prep time figures in the dough rising time.

Mix bread dough according to package. Knead and cover with a moist towel and allow to rise.

Cook sausage over medium heat until browned, then drain grease and let cool.

Place dough on a floured counter and roll into a rectangle about 10″ x 16″. Then cover and let rise for 15 minutes.

Spread pizza sauce over dough leaving 1/2 inch around edges. Sprinkle sausage on top of the sauce, then put the pepperoni slices down. Cover with mozzarella. At this point it will look like a pizza ready for the oven. Start from one end and roll up the dough, tucking in edge as you go. Carefull seal end of loaf (you don’t need egg wash to seal). Put the roll onto a large cooking sheet this can be tricky so you can roll it off end of the counter if it’s easier.

Place in 350F oven for 40 minutes. Check after 30 minutes – bake until loaf is a nice medium brown. Let cool 15 minutes. Serve warm or keep at room temperature. I’ve never found a shelf life for this dish as it never lasted past the first day. Master this and it will be a request at every get together.
