Description

A good “basic” hummus recipe, with a couple of other flavor options.

Ingredients

  • 15 ounces, weight Can Garbanzo Beans, Drained
  • ½ teaspoons Kosher Salt, Or More To Taste
  • ⅛ teaspoons Cayenne Pepper
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Cumin
  • 1 clove Garlic, Peeled And Sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons Water
  • 3 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1-½ Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • ¼ cups Sesame Tahini
  • 1 pinch Smoked Paprika (optional)

Preparation

1. Combine garbanzo beans, salt, cayenne, cumin, garlic, water, lemon juice, olive oil and tahini in the bowl of a food processor.
2. Cover and pulse until smooth.
3. Taste and adjust salt, if necessary.
4. Transfer to a bowl, and sprinkle with a pinch of smoked paprika, if desired.
5. Serve with pita bread, crackers or fresh vegetables. Also makes a nice sandwich or wrap spread.

Other options:
For roasted red pepper hummus, make as directed and add half of a prepared roasted red pepper to the bowl before processing. For summery hummus, make as directed and stir in 1-2 tablespoons chopped, fresh Italian parsley.

I have been trying all sorts of hummus recipes and this one is by far the best one I have made. I love the hint of spicy that the Cayenne gives it. Yummy.
