Description

I used to buy granola in the store, but no more. This is such an easy recipe to make and I don’t think you could mess it up. Just have fun and experiment with different flavors—you never know what you will end up with. Today I used raisins, dried cranberries and almonds.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Plus 1 Tablespoon Real Butter
  • ⅔ cups Honey
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • 3 cups Old Fashioned Or Quick Oatmeal (uncooked)
  • ½ cups Wheat Germ
  • 2 Tablespoons Flax Seed (optional)
  • ¾ cups Almond Pieces
  • ¾ cups Pecan Pieces
  • ¼ cups Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon Sugar
  • ½ cups Dried Cranberries (Craisins)
  • ½ cups Raisins

Preparation

First melt the butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat. Add the honey and salt and briefly heat with the butter. In a separate bowl mix together the oatmeal, wheat germ, flax seed, nuts, brown sugar and cinnamon sugar. If using dried cranberries and raisins, add them as well. Turn off the heat from the butter and add the oatmeal mixture. Stir until everything is coated. Pour the mixture onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Spread the mixture out evenly and bake it at 375° for 10 minutes (watch carefully). It will be a golden brown color. Remove from the oven and let cool. Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.

This recipe is quick and easy! I tweaked it to what I had on hand (had mixed nuts, 2 cups of oats, and extra cranberries). It is delicious and simple which is just what I wanted!
