Description

Shrimp marinated in honey liqueur, grilled and served with a boozy cocktail sauce.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE SHRIMP:
  • 3 Tablespoons Barenjager Honey Liqueur
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Lime Juice
  • ½ whole Jalapeno, Minced
  • 1 Tablespoon Cilantro, Chopped
  • 16 whole Shrimp, Large, Deveined
  • FOR THE COCKTAIL SAUCE:
  • ¼ cups Ketchup
  • ⅛ cups Mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons Prepared Horseradish
  • ½ teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Barenjager Honey Liqueur
  • ¼ teaspoons Sriracha Sauce
  • ½ teaspoons Sugar

Preparation

For the shrimp, mix the liqueur, olive oil, fresh lime juice, and cilantro in a medium bowl and add the shrimp. Toss to coat and set aside for 10-15 minutes.

In a small bowl, mix the cocktail sauce ingredients to blend. Divide between 8 small serving glasses or dishes (or serve in a bowl with shrimp around).

Preheat a grill pan over high heat, coat with cooking spray and add the shrimp, shaking off the marinade. Sear for about 1 minute and flip them over. Heat until just cooked through, 3 minutes. Remove and allow to cool before serving. Arrange 2 shrimp on each of the 8 serving glasses and serve chilled or room temperature. Garnish with a sprig of cilantro.

I learned that Barenjager is not a whiskey. I used the wrong stuff! But it was still delicious and everyone loved it anyways. I added some agave nectar since I didn’t have any honey at home. I’d make it again even if i can’t find the Barenjager.

I just made the cocktail sauce for a party I’m attending tonight but haven’t gotten to marinating the shrimp yet. I had a hard time finding the Barenjager in my small town but did find Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey. I’m not sure if this is an appropriate substitute. Now that I’m taking a closer look at the bottle, it says “Honey Liqueur blended with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.” Is the Barenjager more of a thick honey consistency? This is liquid. I don’t want to proceed with the shrimp if I need to go find something else. Any suggestions??
