15-Minute Mussels

Tasty Kitchen Blog: 15-Minute Mussels. Guest post by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen.

Tomato sauce for pasta is one of the easiest things to make. Everything gets dumped into one pot, then you turn the heat to low and let it simmer to mellow out its tomato-y-ness (pucker!) and richen its flavor. I’ve yet to make a pot of tomato sauce without leftovers, and the remaining always [...]View Post →

A Family Recipe: Yankee Cornbread

Posted by Erica Lea in Step-by-Step Recipes

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Yankee Cornbread. Guest post and recipe from Erica Kastner of Cooking for Seven.

Ever since I can remember, I have eaten my cornbread like a Yank: generously spread with butter and drizzled with maple syrup. You southerners may disagree, but that’s the way I like it. Slightly sweet, barely savory. This is the recipe that our family loves and uses again and again.       You [...]View Post →

As far as candy making goes, I pretty much stink. So when I stumbled across this recipe from Tasty Kitchen member mdatwell for Almond Roca, even though I was tempted by the short list of tasty ingredients, I was a bit hesitant knowing my lack of skilz in that department. Here are the ingredients you’ll need: cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, star anise, cloves, black pepper, nutmeg, orange zest, tea bags, brown sugar, honey, and vanilla. Start by bringing 4 1/2 cups water to the boil on the stove.       The recipe says to use a piece of ginger. For us that meant three large [...]View Post →

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Apple Bourbon French Toast Casserole. Guest post by Amy Johnson of She Wears Many Hats, recipe submitted by TK member Courtney of Bake. Eat. Repeat.

Holidays are here and while we’re all planning for the big meals, what about breakfast? I don’t know about you, but I think about lunch and supper menus and then totally forget about breakfast until the last minute. And breakfast is important, especially if your family tends to eat a late lunch like mine [...]View Post →

Apple Cider Doughnuts

Posted by Laurie {Simply Scratch} in Step-by-Step Recipes

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Apple Cider Donuts. Guest post by Laurie of Simply Scratch, recipe submitted by TK member Aimee of Shugary Sweets.

These Apple Cider Donuts have so much apple goodness wrapped into one delicious doughnut. The apple cider is actually IN the doughnuts and they’re baked, which for some people (meaning me) is a lot less stressful then deep frying. But all this goodness doesn’t just stop there.View Post →

Apple Pie Egg Rolls

Posted by cookincanuck in Baking, Step-by-Step Recipes

Tasty Kitchen Blog: Apple Pie Egg Rolls. Guest post by Dara Michalski of Cookin' Canuck, recipe submitted by TK member Maya of Alaska from Scratch.

As soon as apples hit the market in the autumn, our minds turn to apple pie and turnovers, preferably accompanied by large spoonfuls of vanilla ice cream. However, if you’re running short on time, or are inexplicably freaked out by pie dough (like me), you may be tempted to whip up a dessert that incorporates all of the flavors of apple pie, without the fuss. Instead of rolling out pie dough, just cut open a package of egg roll wrappers, which can be found in most supermarkets. The apple pie filling is classic and simple: apples, sugar, lemon and spices. Bundle up the filling in the egg roll wrappers and bake. Half an hour later, you’ll be digging into these crispy treats.View Post →
