Have you ever made nut butter at home? If not, what are you waiting for? It is so easy and much cheaper than buying at the store. I make homemade peanut butter and almond butter all of the time. I like to try new variations of my favorite nut butters, so when I saw Erin’s (Naturally Ella) recipe for Sea Salt and Honey Almond Butter I knew I was in for a special treat. I had everything in my pantry so I busted out my food processor and got started.

To make it you will need: almonds, honey, and sea salt. Yes, there are only three ingredients involved in making this delicious almond butter. Big time bonus, huh?

The almonds will go through different stages. Keep the food processor going until the almonds release their oils.

The almonds will start to ball up right before it is ready.

Then the almonds will turn into a smooth and creamy butter. When you get to this stage, you are good to go.

Homemade nut butter in under ten minutes, with only three ingredients—you’ve got to get in on this! It’s so easy and so good! I am in love with the sweet and salty combo. I could eat it straight from the jar, but I try to control myself. I love to eat it on apple slices, toast, or crackers. It is great for breakfast or a healthy snack.

Thanks Erin for sharing your Sea Salt and Honey Almond Butter recipe. My jar is already half empty and it’s only been a few days. I guess I will be whipping up another batch soon. For other delicious and healthy recipes, visit Erin’s beautiful blog, Naturally Ella

Description

Homemade almond butter that beats out store bought any day!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Dry Roasted Almonds
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey

Preparation Instructions

Place almonds in a food processor and turn on. Almonds will go through different stages but you will want to let your food processor run until the oil has released and almond butter has smoothed out (it will ball up right before this happens). Turn off food processor and transfer to a mason jar.

Stir in salt and honey; taste. Adjust sweet/salty combination to your liking. Cover with an airtight lid and keep in the refrigerator.

I just made this today.
Worked out beautifully!
It took about 13 minutes in my Cuisinart custom prep II.

Hopefully, I’ll behave myself and not eat it all before nightfall……sigh!

Amy on 7.6.2012

I used whole natural almonds – only because I didn’t read through all the comments. Just wanted to mention this took a long time – almost 15 minutes! I was getting a little worried but in the end everything worked out fine.

I made this yesterday and it’s delicious! I used raw almonds simply because I had overlooked that they should be roasted before! It took forever. At least ten minutes until doughy and then five more minutes after that until liquidy. But I kept scraping and the food processor going and it worked! Super yummy. So much cheaper than store bought. Love it! Thanks for the recipe!

I make macadamia butter using this method. Oh so good. Will have to try making it with almonds. Thanks for the idea.

Kim on 5.3.2012

I tried it and it didn’t work for me. But my almonds were raw. I let the food processor run for like 5 minutes too. LOL!

Wow, like some of the others mentioned already, I always buy mine, but this is amazing. Have you ever considered selling it? Naeji.com is always looking for new artisan foods– helping home chef sell some amazing products. Just let me know! I’m going to make this myself.

Jamie- I was wondering this, too! In the comments section of Erin’s website post of her recipe, she says she folds in liquids like honey after, because she’s found that when she adds them into the processor it makes the smooth, spreadable texture become rough and unspreadable.

Genevieve on 5.1.2012

Nancy and Maria- on Erin’s website, she does state that the almonds should be roasted- either bought that way, or in the oven for a bit. Same reason you toast nuts before many recipes- it adds flavor.

What a great idea! And so healthy too :)

I just made this and, I have to say: WOW!! This is so tasty, I can’t believe I never thought of making my own almond butter before. The honey is a nice addition, and the sea salt adds an amazing depth to the flavor. Now I am searching for anything I can put this on.

This looks so good!!! I’m definitely going to try this!

Rainy on 4.26.2012

I so need a food processor, it ain’t funny. So many yummy things on here that require one.

Nanabanana on 4.26.2012

This looks yummy. Do you think it would work with pecans? I have a freezer full from this fall. If pecans would work, do you think they’d work better toasted or raw?

Wendy on 4.25.2012

Looks delicious!! Any idea how long it will last if refrigerated? DO nut butters go ‘bad’ ever?

Thanks so much for sharing!! I’m definitely going to give this a try!

Maria on 4.25.2012

Nancy-I am sure raw almonds would work perfectly!

Maria on 4.25.2012

Marcia-I got the jar at Crate and Barrel. It is a Weck Jar.

Nancy S. on 4.25.2012

Do the almonds need to be ‘dry roasted’, or will raw almonds work??

Heather (Heather's Dish) on 4.25.2012

this sounds so simple and so amazing…anything slightly salted i love!

Pat on 4.25.2012

Marcia, you might find the jars on the Lehman’s website. I think the brand is Weck.

Travis Cotton on 4.25.2012

Maybe Ill try this. Ive always been turned off to nut based spreads really other than peanuts.

Oooooh WANT!!

Jamie on 4.25.2012

Why wouldn’t you just put the honey and salt in the food processor to mix it in? That seems a lot easier, I’m pretty sure I’d make a mess trying to stir it in the jar, or I’d have to dirty a bowl to stir it in.

molly on 4.25.2012

this looks SO SO SO SO SO good

I was searching for this kind of recipe, step by step because i tried 2 times without success, i hope i will make this time. Thanks!

The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh on 4.25.2012

I always buy mine but I really should make my own sometime and this looks like the perfect place to start!

Marcia on 4.25.2012

Could you tell me what kind of jar you used in these pictures and where you got it?

Allyn on 4.25.2012

This looks so good! If only my husband wasn’t allergic to nuts. Though we really needed to get him tested to see if it applies to all nuts. It’d be awesome if we could use almonds!
I’ve also heard that pecan butter is amazing.
